GREAT PIKE FISHING
Trophy pike fishing on the Kemijoki

The northern pike — a predator without equal
The northern pike is the undisputed king of the Kemijoki watershed. It's a predator that has survived since before the ice ages, honing its tactics to perfection in cold Arctic water. When a trophy fish hits your lure with its full weight, your heart stops for a beat — and then the fight begins, one you won't forget. The Kemijoki's pike population is strong, and its fish grow large. Trophy sizes here aren't the exception. They're the goal.
Where do the big pike hide?
An experienced guide doesn't just take you out on the water — he teaches you to read it the way a predator does. A pike is never a random visitor anywhere; it chooses its ground deliberately and defends its territory with purpose.
Spring — the big females move up into the shallows to spawn. After spawning they feed aggressively and are at their most active — the first great peak of the year for a pike angler.
Summer — pike retreat to deeper thresholds, the cover of sunken timber, and the shadow of rocky banks. The right lure at the right depth is what decides the day — and your guide knows exactly both.
Autumn — pike go through the year's last great feeding period before winter arrives. Autumn fishing amid the Kemijoki's autumn colours combines natural beauty and fishing excitement in a way that's hard to match.

The art of lure selection — the right silhouette at the right moment

Pike fishing is a strategic pursuit. Lure size, colour, running depth, and retrieve all decide whether the pike strikes or not. Our trips use quality lures favoured by professional anglers:
• Large spoons — a classic, effective choice for reaching deeper water
• Jerkbaits — imitating a wounded fish, triggering a pike's instinctive strike reflex
• Topwater lures — summer's finest moments, when a pike rises and explodes through the surface
• Jigs and softbaits — a versatile option for tougher conditions and colder water
Your guide chooses and adjusts tactics to match the day — you focus on the cast, and on the thrill.

The course of a trip — a day on the Kemijoki's finest grounds
We set out in the morning, when the water is calm and the pike most active. Our boat is specially rigged for lure-casting — spacious, stable, and fitted with a modern fishfinder to locate fish fast.
Across the day:
• We move between the season's best pike grounds, guided by our guide's local knowledge
• We work on casting technique and lure handling as needed
• We take in the wilderness river-valley scenery and quiet
• We handle the catch — and, if you like, fillet it — at day's end
Trips are private — the boat holds 1–3 anglers; for larger groups, we arrange multi-boat trips.

Keep the catch, or return it to the water
We follow responsible-fishing principles. The largest trophy fish are released — they're the Kemijoki watershed's most valuable natural resource, and they deserve to keep on living. Pike suited for the table can be taken home if you wish, and your guide will fillet the catch with professional skill at trip's end.

Who is a pike trip for?
Everyone. For the first-timer, pike is the perfect species to start with — aggressive, big enough to feel all the way up your arm, and delivering an immediate sense of success. For the seasoned casting angler, the Kemijoki's trophy pike are a serious challenge and a hard-won achievement.
Our pike trips operate across Kemijärvi, Salla, Savukoski, and Pelkosenniemi — we choose the location based on season and group preference.
